AUSTIN, TX - The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) is pleased to welcome Chelsea Buchholtz as General Counsel of the Texas Real Estate Commission Effective March 2019.

Prior to joining the team at TREC, Buchholtz was deputy director of operations for the Community Development and Revitalization Division of the Texas General Land Office.  Chelsea also previously worked for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, moving from deputy general counsel to general counsel to chief of staff, and served as assistant general counsel and a policy advisor to Governor Rick Perry.  She began her legal career clerking for Justice Phylis Speedlin, on the Texas Court of Appeals, Fourth District, in San Antonio.

She earned her undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University and a JD from Pepperdine University School of Law.  She completed the Governor’s Executive Development Program in 2013. In her spare time, Chelsea cooks, and enjoys the outdoors and spends time with her husband, Scott, and young daughter, Rosemary.

Long-serving TREC General Counsel, Kerri Lewis, will be retiring from state service in May 2019. Ms. Lewis has been an invaluable member of TREC staff since 2009. The Commission thanks her for her hard work, dedication, and commitment to the citizens of Texas.

TREC works to protect the public through the agency’s licensing, education, and complaint investigation services, as well as regulation and enforcement of state and federal laws and requirements that govern each of these areas of service.
