  • 2017 Legislative Update from TREC

    Memorial Day was the last day of the 85th Legislative session. Several bills were filed this session relating to the agency and its license holders but not all of those bills made it through the process.  Following is a summary of bills that passed both houses of the Legislature and have direct effect on license holders.

  • Reporting Visible and Present Indications of Adverse Performance in a Foundation

    Section 535.228(a) of the Texas Administrative Code (Foundations) requires an inspector to render a written opinion as to the performance of the foundation. Many inspectors understand this to mean one of two things; the foundation is either performing or it is not performing. But sometimes the inspector is unable to determine this with sufficient confidence.

    The Commission met on Monday, May 1st for its regular quarterly meeting.  In this legislative season, the Commission had a modest agenda of rules to consider as it awaits the outcome of policy decisions made by our Texas lawmakers.  In addition to hearing updates on customer service, license processing, exam administration, complaint investigation and enforcement, and financial matters, other administrative business was also accomplished, including the adoption of our annual intern

  • Senate Confirms Appointments of Commission Members

    TREC is pleased to announce the Senate confirmation of Governor Abbott's appointments to the Commission on May 21, 2017. Broker member Bob Leonard of San Antonio, broker member Rayito Stephens of Houston and public member TJ Turner of Austin.

    The appointees will continue to serve the Commission and consumers of Texas until their terms expire. Read more on each of these appointees and the Commission on our "About the Commission" page.

  • License Exams Now Available On Military Installations

    The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) is pleased to announce that the Texas real estate sales agent, broker, and inspector licensure exams are now conveniently available at over 200 Pearson VUE test centers as well as on military installations across the globe for service members, spouses, dependents, and contractors with authorized base access.

    The full Inspector Committee met on February 3rd to discuss various education-related items. Part of the agenda for that meeting was the election of officers for the upcoming year. I was elected as Chair, Lee Warren was elected Vice-chair, and Brad Phillips was elected as Secretary. I believe I speak for all of the newly elected officers in expressing our appreciation to the Committee for their trust.
