I hope this message finds you recovering from Halloween and the election. In these uncertain times, I urge us all to focus on what matters to us most. November brings Thanksgiving, and with that a unique opportunity to give thanks. This year is one for the record books, but I am grateful to live in the great state of Texas.

TREC Workshop and Meeting

The Commission conducted a workshop and regular quarterly meeting this month.  The workshop provided a chance for the Commission to receive training, provide feedback to staff, and roll up our sleeves.  Both the workshop and the regular quarterly meetings were held remotely.

Proposed Rules and Comments

Since my appointment as chair, I have sought to improve participation in the rulemaking process by license holders. The work of the Broker Responsibility Working Group, Education Standards Advisory Committee, Real Estate Inspector Committee, and the Broker-Lawyer Committee are highlighted in the recommendations and proposed rules the Commission reviews at its meetings.

License holders and the public can easily follow and contribute to the development of proposals by attending public meetings and providing feedback on proposed rules .

All public meetings dates and agendas are posted on the website calendar. Attendance at committee meetings is easier in this season because they are conducted virtually.  Additionally, all proposed rules are published on the agency website.

New Deputy General Counsel

Abby Lee has joined TREC as our new Deputy General Counsel. Many of you may recognize Abby as she formally worked for Texas Realtors. Abby is an excellent addition to the TREC legal team, and I know she will bring a unique perspective. For more on Abby, please be sure to read her full bio on our website. Welcome, Abby!

Upcoming Holidays and Office Closures

Wednesday, November 11, is Veteran's Day, and the agency will be closed. I hope each of you takes the time to acknowledge the gift given to all Americans by our veterans.  I am grateful to any of our license holders and their families who may have served our country.

Additionally, due to building maintenance at TREC headquarters during Thanksgiving week, the agency's websites, online services, and offices will be completely unavailable from November 25 through the 29th.  We hope and expect all to be back by Sunday night.

If your license expires on November 30, you will need to renew your license no later than November 24 to avoid license expiration or late fees. To ensure that you can renew your license before the maintenance interruption, your continuing education should be posted to your license record by November 16.

I want to personally thank you all for continuing to work hard, provide excellent service to the people of Texas, and keep moving forward. I am grateful to all of you.
