The Education Standards Advisory Committee (ESAC) met on October 5, 2020, to continue to diligent work of the committee.

The committee previously assigned a working group to consider elective continuing education (CE) course topics that may be of particular benefit to real estate license holders in an effort to assist education providers as they develop new courses. Based on the efforts of the working group, updates will be made to the website to help guide education providers when preparing elective CE course applications.

ESAC also discussed the important and timely topics of racism, discrimination, and implicit bias as they relate to the practice of real estate.  While fair housing is addressed in several pre-licensing courses, committee members and staff agreed there are opportunities to further address these issues in non-elective CE courses. In addition to elective CE, future versions of the mandatory courses will incorporate these topics as appropriate.

The next ESAC meeting is scheduled for January 11, 2021, at 10:00 am.  This meeting will take place virtually and members of the public are encouraged to attend.  The agenda will include the election of officers and discussion and possible action regarding professional designations.  If you would like to submit a public comment on these or any other topics, you may send those to general.counsel@trec.texas.gov.  A recording of the October 5, 2020, ESAC meeting is available on the TREC website.
