TREC Processing Dates
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is experiencing technical difficulties affecting turnaround times for FBI fingerprint-based criminal history results. This may result in a delay in processing an application for licensure. DPS is working to fix this issue but has not shared a timeline for resolution.
The processing dates provided below are updated every Monday by 3:00 PM Central Time.
Education Standards Advisory Committee
The Education Standards Advisory Committee (ESAC) reviews curriculum standards, course content requirements and instructor certification requirements for qualifying and continuing education courses, and makes recommendations to the Commission regarding these topics to ensure license holder education meets the highest educational standards.

Licensing Exam Sites Re-Opening
Submitted by Christine Anderson on Mon, 2020-04-27 10:11TREC and Pearson VUE announce licensing exam centers to slowly re-open around the state after swift closure in March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. TREC partners with Pearson VUE to offer licensing examinations. Pearson VUE operates both company-owned exam sites and third party sites. TREC has authorized the use of all Pearson VUE third party sites to expand exam capacity during this unprecedented time. TREC Launches Approved Course Search Tool

The tools allows individuals to search for a specific provider or type of course using one or more search functions. TREC Announces Appointments to the Education Standards Advisory Committee

Public member, Rick Albers of Austin and educator member, Candy Cooke of Round Rock, have been appointed; and broker members, Rob Cook of Houston and Sarah Norman of Bryan have been reappointed to ESAC, with terms set to expire in December 2021.
Instructor Qualifications For Providers
Instructors of real estate and inspector qualifying courses (pre-license) must have:
- A college degree in real estate or inspection and three years of teaching or training experience; or
- Five years of active experience as a license holder (five years of active experience as a broker is required to teach the Real Estate Brokerage course) and three years of teaching or training experience; or
Update on Changes to Instructor Approvals
Submitted by Christine Anderson on Wed, 2019-09-18 14:11To implement requirements in the agency’s Sunset bill, the Commission recently adopted rules eliminating TREC licenses for instructors. However, the standards that set the qualifications for instructors did not change. Effective September 1, education providers are now responsible to ensure instructors meet the qualifications to teach a course.
Reminder: Instructor Changes Coming Soon!
Submitted by Christine Anderson on Fri, 2019-07-26 10:43To implement provisions in the agency’s recent Sunset bill, TREC has proposed rules to eliminate instructor licensing. The proposed rules are expected to be adopted at the August Commission meeting with an effective date of September 1, 2019.
As a reminder, while an instructor license will no longer be required to teach on September 1, the qualifications necessary to teach specific courses remain It will be the responsibility of the education provider to ensure an instructor is qualified.
