  • ESAC Recommends Real Estate Brokerage Course as Mandatory SAE, Discusses Course Outline for Property Management

    The Texas Real Estate Commission Education Standards Advisory Committee (ESAC) met October 3 and discussed changes to the qualifying course outline for Property Management and making the 30-hour Real Estate Brokerage course a mandatory course as part of required SAE.

  • New Online Services Available for ERW Agents and Brokers

    The Texas Real Estate Commission has launched new enhancements to the online services portal to make it easier for easement or right-of-way agents and brokers to submit certain applications.

  • TREC Now Accepting ERW Courses

    The 87th Texas Legislature enacted HB 2730 effective January 1, 2023, requiring easement or right-of-way agents to complete 16 hours of TREC-approved qualifying education prior to registration, and 16 hours of TREC-approved continuing education (CE) for each two-year registration term.

  • Do You Really Have to Provide a Flood Disclosure for Temporary Residential Leases?

    Yes. A bill passed during the 87th Texas Legislative Session does not generally exempt landlords of temporary residential leases from providing a disclosure notice about whether the landlord is aware that the dwelling is located in a 100‐year floodplain or that the dwelling has flooded within the last five years.

    The Texas Real Estate Commission at its August meeting proposed form revisions recommended by the Texas Real Estate Broker-Lawyer Committee.

  • TREC’s Latest Meeting Results in New Flood Disclosure Form for Leases, Updated Broker Responsibility Course for 2023

    The Texas Real Estate Commission met August 8, 2022. The Commission adopted the new Landlord’s Floodplain and Flood Notice (TREC 54-0) form and revisions to the Seller’s Temporary Residential Lease (TREC 15-6) and the Buyer’s Temporary Residential Lease (TREC 16-6) forms, as well as non-substantive rule changes from the agency’s quadrennial rule review.     The TREC Inspector Committee (TREIC) met July 18 and discussed clarifications to 535.222, Inspection Reports, and 535.223, Standard Inspection Report Form.

  • Broker Responsibility Group Proposes New Rule on Response Times, Adding Oversight to Sales Agent’s First-Time Brokerage Activity

    The Broker Responsibility Working Group (BRWG) met July 13 and acted on two proposals related to broker oversight and sales agents’ response times.

    Proposed Rule

    BRWG proposed a new rule, 535.157, that requires a broker or sales agent to respond to their principal, a broker or sales agent representing another party to a real estate transaction, or an unrepresented party to a real estate transaction within two calendar days.

    The Education Standards Advisory Committee (ESAC) met July 7 and discussed pre-licensing course credit and the qualifying course outline for real estate brokerage and property management.

  • Education Standards Advisory Committee Accepting Applications for Members

    The Texas Real Estate Commission's Education Standards Advisory Committee (ESAC) is accepting applications to fill two education member positions by real estate instructors or owners of real estate schools, accredited by the Commission, that provide qualifying or continuing education. It is also accepting applications to fill four real estate license holder positions.

    The Inspector Committee has had a busy couple of months since it last met in February.  On March 26th, the Inspector Consumer Issues Working Group met to review issues regarding inspector financial responsibility and insurance requirements and to also make recommendations for the Committee to consider. In addition to the Inspector Committee members, the Working Group included Paul Roebuck representing TPREIA and Mike Hammel representing TAREI.

  • Commission Appoints Six to Education Standards Advisory Committee

    AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Real Estate Commission is pleased to announce the recent appointments of six new committee members to the Education Standards Advisory Committee. Sarah Norman of Bryan, Jason Woodward of Amarillo, Felicia Peters of Grandbury, Scott Kesner of El Paso, Rob Cook of Houston, and public member Marcela Gomez of Austin have been appointed as members, with terms set to expire in 2019.

  • TREC Announces Extension For All License Holders Affected By Hurricane Harvey

    In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the Texas Real Estate Commission and the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (the Agency) extended all deadlines for two months for all license holders and applicants statewide with license expiration or application deadlines in August and September. This extension ended on October 31, 2017. 

  • New Commission Appointments Announced

    AUSTIN, TX - Governor Abbott has appointed three new members to the Texas Real Estate Commission; broker members, Jan Fite Miller and DeLora Wilkinson and a public member Micheal Williams with terms set to expire January 31, 2023. These new members will join the Commission for its next regular quarterly meeting in Austin on November 13, 2017. 

  • Testing Provider Closing Testing Centers Due To Hurricane

    Due to Hurricane Harvey, our testing provider, Pearson Vue, will be closing some of the sites in Texas over the next few days.  Site closures keep coming in, and they are reaching out to all candidates via email to let them know that their appointment will need to be rescheduled.

  • TREC Receives ARELLO Communications Award

    The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) is pleased to announce that the agency’s completely redesigned website has been recognized for excellence by the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) with a 2017 Communication Award.  ARELLO is an international organization of real estate licensing agencies and individuals involved with regulation of the real estate industry globally.

    SB 2212 amends Chapter 1101 to codify the clarifying changes to TREC rules regarding sale of certain equitable interests in real property.

  • Senate Confirms Appointments of Commission Members

    TREC is pleased to announce the Senate confirmation of Governor Abbott's appointments to the Commission on May 21, 2017. Broker member Bob Leonard of San Antonio, broker member Rayito Stephens of Houston and public member TJ Turner of Austin.

    The appointees will continue to serve the Commission and consumers of Texas until their terms expire. Read more on each of these appointees and the Commission on our "About the Commission" page.
