    The Texas Real Estate Commission met May 2, 2022. In addition to hearing updates from TREC staff, the Commission contemplated a proposed new flood disclosure form for leases, non-substantive proposed changes from the quadrennial rule review, and adopted a rule change for easement or right-of-way (ERW) agents.

  • Update to the Qualifying Education Course Posting System

    TREC is pleased to announce an update to the Posting System that allows all providers of real estate Qualifying Education (QE) courses to post course credit directly into the agency’s system of record. The student must have a TREC real estate sales agent or broker license number to award qualifying credit.

  • Broker Responsibility Working Group Recommends Response Times for Brokers and Sales Agents, Increased Oversight of Sales Agents’ First-Time Brokerage Activity

    The Broker Responsibility Working Group (BRWG) met April 13 and made two proposed recommendations that will be discussed during the next TREC Workshop on May 3. Feedback from the TREC Workshop discussion will be part of the next BRWG meeting in July.

  • Education Standards Advisory Committee Recap: Broker-Agent Relationship Education, Future Review of Property Management Course

    The TREC Education Standards Advisory Committee (ESAC) met April 4. Members of the committee made plans to review the qualifying course outline for property management and discussed how to incorporate education on the broker-agent relationship in existing courses.

    The TREC Broker-Lawyer Committee (BLC) met April 8. The committee received updates from various working groups and made recommendations for the Commission on form revisions and a new form.

    In late January, the Texas Real Estate Commission launched an online survey to gather information from wholesalers, consumers who have purchased from or sold property to wholesalers, and license holders who have represented a party in a wholesaling transaction.

    A bill passed during the 87th Texas Legislative Session moved the regulation of residential service companies, also known as home warranty companies, from the Texas Real Estate Commission to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). TREC adopted a change to the Consumer Protection Notice (CPN) during its February meeting to remove a reference to home warranty companies being regulated by TREC.

    Greetings from Austin. We are just on the other side of another Commission meeting and participation in Texas REALTORS Winter Meeting. I love that these two events occur at the same time in Austin so that attendees of the Winter Meeting can also attend the Commission meeting (and receive CE credit).

    The Inspector Advisory Committee met virtually on January 15th.  This was a lengthy meeting, as there was a lot to cover on this go around.  First off, I would like to welcome the two newest members of the IAC.  Bruce Carpenter is an inspector member from Pittsburg, and Brian Carroll is a public member from Temple.  Both of them dove right into the meeting providing feedback and giving input, so it was clear that they came prepared to be involved with the IAC.

  • TREC Launches Next Phase of Education Provider Audit Program

    AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) will launch the second phase of the education provider audit program in January 2021.  TREC rules give staff authority to audit education providers and permits staff to conduct on-site audits without prior notice.  Staff may also enroll in and attend a course without identifying themselves as TREC employees.

  • Temporary Allowance for New Texas Practicum Courses

    New inspector pre-licensing education and experience requirements begin March 1, 2021.  The new experience requirement includes a 40 hour Texas Practicum, which must consist of a minimum of five complete and in-person inspections.  In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, TREC will grant a temporary allowance for on-site inspections to take place virtually, as long as the Practicum instructor conducts inspections live and on-site, and the instructor and students are able to interact with ea

    When preparing course applications, be sure they are filled out completely, all necessary documents are included and the fee is accurately calculated.  Course applications and fees received separately will be sent back to the provider. 

    Course Evaluations

    All providers are required to provide each student with a course evaluation form approved by the Commission or Board.
